Disposable laptops will be en vogue
January 2, 2008 — 7:59am ET
If 2007 was the year of the Eee PC then 2008 will see the attack of the clones. Everyone in the industry currently has their eyes on the Eee and with component costs continuing to fall, 2008 could see OEMs engaging in a race to the bottom to see who can produce the cheapest, smallest laptop. While it seems likely that ultraportable machines and modern smartphones will merge at some point, 2008 will see a continued demand for full-featured portable PCs that can get the job done on the cheap.
