Google extends search to enterprise apps

Google has again updated the enterprise version of its data searching appliance. A new feature called OneBox queries applications directly instead of relying on data feeds, so it’s faster than before. The updated appliance can now handle twice its previous capacity. Google also announced integration partnerships with Cisco Systems, Cognos, Employease, Netsuite, Oracle and salesforce.com.

BMC buys Identify Software for $150M

What’s your IT problem? BMC hopes its $150 million of acquisition Identity Software can help you solve it. Identity called its tools the AppSight Problem Resolution System, but for BMC they will likely get the Remedy moniker. The software works best in Java 2 Enterprise Edition and Microsoft .Net environments, officials said. It will probably get re-released this summer or fall as a rival to applications from CA, Compuware, IBM/Tivoli and Mercury Interactive.

Open Text launches new compliance tools

Open Text’s new Internal Controls 3.0 software adds a compliance component to the software category of enterprise content management. The software provides central custom libraries of metadata, which companies can use to test other data and processes, manage audit trails and produce reports. IC3 includes options for U.S., Canadian and European compliance rules. It ships later this month.

Business Objects buys SRC, Infommersion

Business Objects has announced two big acquisitions. First, they’re buying SRC Software, which makes IT forecasting and planning tools, for $100 million. Second, they’re buying Infommersion, which makes data visualization software, for $40 million. Both are all-cash deals for the business intelligence specialist, whose officials previously insisted they didn’t need to expand and even mocked competitor Cognos for getting involved with such products. OpenView expands with partners, services

Hewlett-Packard is developing several new IT service management technologies. The new “ITSM Express Pack for Consolidated Service Desk” is a bundling of software and services for helping companies evaluate and fix technology processes more quickly than previously possible. Other new bundles merge the OpenView Business Process Insight software with tools from Business Objects, Cognos, Hyperion, and SAS. How the acquisition of Peregrine will fit in is unclear.
