IBM group eyes open-source storage management

IBM is leading a new vendor alliance called Aperi to push new open-source storage management software. Cisco Systems, Computer Associates, Brocade Communications, Network Appliance, McData and Fujitsu are all participating. That’s nice, but critics say it is more of an anti-EMC marketing push. EMC said it wasn’t invited to join, nor are Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi, Sun Microsystems or Veritas (Symantec) anywhere in sight. The group is also a challenge to the Storage Networking Industry …

Fujitsu software tackles enterprise information

Fujitsu plans to offer data management software by next spring. A tool called Business Information Navigator will provide enterprise-level searching of tagged content and also illuminate the relationships between content. Another tool, of an undisclosed name, is designed to manage syndicated (RSS) data. The enterprise purpose of the RSS manager is vague, but it could be used in contact center suites or for internal communications in companies with many locations.

SPOTLIGHT: Fujitsu to offer Linux, server support services


Fujitsu in late September will begin selling Novell’s Linux and Intel server support in addition to its current Windows and Red Hat offerings. This is an extension of a previous Fujitsu/SuSE deal which applied to a more limited range of products. It now applies to Fujitsu’s PrimeQuest servers. Article
