AMD intros Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Black Edition

Jay-Z, Metallica and Prince all have a Black Album, so why shouldn’t AMD? Because AMD makes Microprocessors, not albums, silly! Now, having said that, AMD is not above releasing a “Black Edition” of one of their beloved Athlons and that’s exactly what the company plans to do. The forthcoming Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Black Edition will represent the new top of the X2 line (making it the fastest dual-core chip that the company sells), with a 200Mhz performance advantage over its predecessor. That means that you’ll get a 90nm, 3.2Ghz chip with 2MB of L2 cache and support for a single HyperTransport link at 2.0Ghz. Sure, it’s not going to come cheap, though if you must have the latest and greatest from AMD, this is likely going to be the fastest thing you’ll see on this side of Barcelona.
