Go green with IT: save the planet and your budget

Let’s face the facts: IT is a power hog. Even an environment with just a few desktops and servers can draw large amounts of power if not properly managed. If recent research from Intel is to be believed, a staggering eighty percent of businesses have never conducted an energy audit and only 29 percent of businesses are investing in energy-efficient hardware. So what’s keeping IT from reducing power consumption? According to Daniel Fliescher, a senior research analyst at IDC, it may be the misconception that reducing consumption requires significant investment. “I think there is still a perception among CIOs that it costs money to go green,” Fliescher said. The fact is, however, that reducing your consumption can greatly reduce costs, as the energy bill is one of the primary areas where IT makes its mark on the budget. Nowadays, power-efficient PCs are no more costly than their power hungry brethren, as one analyst points out. There are even some steps you can take toward reducing consumption that don’t require investing in new hardware: allowing PCs to go to sleep at night, for example. Cost savings aside, IT power consumption is believed to be a major contributor to global warming. And that spells bad news for everyone. As Gordon Graylish, head of Intel for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, says, “I care about it because the world won’t be a great market if it’s all bubbling away and half is under water.” Couldn’t have said it better myself, Gordon.

I’ts comforting to see how many are very concerned about our earth and the environment, the little we can do to keep it clean shows our respect for our planet and even more so for our creator. It upsets us to see how man has been able through greed to ruin the quality of life today, how much more so the one who created it all in the first place. The fact remains that at this stage there is little we can actually do to reverse the harm already sustained. On the other hand the bible clearly states that “God will bring to ruin those ruining the earth’.(Revelation 11:18)It also tells us in Psalm 37:10,11 that the “Meek ones themselves will pocess the earth and they themselves will find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace”. All this on a cleansed earth and a perfectly cleansed earth can only be achieved through divine intervention. Bible chronology pinpoints our times as the last days of this system of things. If God doesn’t step in life on earth as we know it will not survive. The bible has fortold exactly what world conditions would be like today, fortelling that the earth will be transformed into a veritable paradise where all loyal servants of Jehovah Godd who are carrying out his will at this time will have the prospects of livivg forever in paradise conditions. How do we know all this will come about? Mankinds creator says in Isaiah 55:11 that “his word that goes forth from his mouth will not return to him without results, but it will certainly do that in which God has delighted”. The answer to mankinds problems lies in the pages of the bible. Please feel free to e-mail me for further information.
