Intel’s V8 shames AMD’s Barcelona in benchmarks

You didn’t really think that Intel was going to let AMD get away with all of that boasting about the upcoming native quad Barcelona, did you? It turns out that, much like hip-hop mogul Jay-Z, Intel is “in love with a V dub engine.” Following Barcelona’s recent POV benchmark score of just over 4000, Intel decided to throw down some benchmarks of its own: 4933 for a “V8″ 3.0 GHz 8-core (2-socket quad-core) system. This is bad news for AMD because these are Clovertown CPUs that Intel is using–which means that 8 Intel cores based on current-gen technology can outperform 16 cores from AMD’s next-gen platform. Couple this with the production problems that AMD is likely to face in the coming months and you’ve got a pretty grim outlook for the underdog of the processor world.

goto love comparing stuff thats already out.. had many revisions and many other things compared to something that is not out, with no real benchmarks.. YAY!!!

How the hell can you call this a fair comparison in performance??? The Intel system is using two mature CPUs that have been out for a while, presuming they are indeed Clovertowns, while the AMD processor is an underclocked pre-production CPU!!! And adding to that you’re comparing one Barcelona (4 cores) to two Clovertowns (8 cores). What gives??

yeah this is not a fair comparison.

Dont make any conclusions until the m780 chipset is released AND the barcelona can clock above 2.6ghz (a number needed to provide good HT performance)

that being said, if amd fails to perform well after Q2 of 08, expect a bankruptcy filing before 2009.

update to above… i mean the RS780 chipset

well. barcy released now. and it out perform intel xeon for 50% performance. i still considering of buying it since performance / watt , and performcance / price in hands of AMD product.
