LG KU990 Viewty: A sheep in iPhone clothing

We’ve seen our fair share of iPhone competitors in the past but the latest–LG’s KU990 Viewty–looks like it could be a real contender. Well, on paper, at least. The handset boasts the usual iPhone-like specs–touchscreen, built-in music player, digital camera–and ups the ante with 3G HSDPA, the ability to record 120FPS video and a physical scroll wheel for the manual focusing of photos and place-shifting in videos.

While that sounds all well and good, the folks over at Gizmodo got their hands on the device at the IFC in Berlin and they’re reporting that the device could still use quite a bit of work. At the top of the list of gripes is the fact that the scroll wheel “doesn’t feel right and it doesn’t work as you would expect a click-wheel to work,” the UI’s “slow and stuttering” speed and the handset’s not-quite-a-touchscreen touchscreen.
