Samsung LCD displays phone home

OK you jokers, who put VoIP in my LCD display? I leave my desk for one minute and what do I find when I come back? A Samsung SyncMaster 220TN with integrated VoIP calling. I suppose it could be worse–after all, Samsung’s LCD panels are widely regarded as being some of the best around and from the looks of it, this 22″ SyncMaster is no exception. If I had to guess, I’d say this thing has a 5-ms refresh rate and a max resolution of 1680 x 1050. And what’s all this? Looks like a 10/100Mbps Ethernet port, four USB ports and a built-in 2-megapixel webcam, mic and speaker. Okay, okay, I guess if you’re going to have all that gear baked-in, you might as well embed a VoIP app in the thing, to enable calling without having to turn on your PC. This monitor probably needs a little help in that department though and judging by the sound of it, I’d say there’s a 500Mhz Geode LX800 processor running WinXP embedded hiding in there somewhere. Alright, I’ll admit, this thing seems pretty slick for what it is, I’m just not convinced that anyone needs a display that can make VoIP calls. Honestly, I’d really ju–wait a second. Okay wise guys, who put chocolate in my milk?
