Starbucks to give away 50M iTunes songs

Do you like lattes? Do you like music? Do you own an iPod? If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, it seems likely that you’ll be enticed by the following bit of news: Starbucks has announced that it will give away 50 million iTunes songs, in order to promote its forthcoming in-store WiFi iTunes access. Here’s how it works: from October 2nd until November 7th, over 10,000 Starbucks outlets will hand out free “Song of the Day” iTunes download cards to customers. The company expects to hand out around 1.5 million of these cards a day, or 50 million in total and all you need to do to get one is to show up at a participating Starbucks. Unfortunately, you’ll only be able to download the “Song of the Day,” as opposed to a song of your choice, so I hope you enjoy mid-period Bob Dylan: the first song of the day will be “Jokerman” from Dylan’s 1983 album Infidels.
